The Crocodile lizard owes its Chinese nickname to its deep sleep during sun bathing.
This species is ovoviviparous, which means that the eggs are already incubated inside the mother‘s body. The recently hatched youngs are then „born“ alive.
Due to the habitat destruction and illegal capture for trade and medicine the Crocodile lizard is one of the rarest reptile species worldwide.

Reproduction: ovovivipar, i.e. Eggs are hatched in the body, the boys also hatch in the mother's body and are then "born" alive. "Pregnancy" can take up to 14 months depending on the outside temperature.
