The animals, which come from Africa, prefer to cuddle up together on their new floor heating plate or next to the infrared wall heating plates in winter. So - take heart and heat up our mongoose.

These gentle marsupials originally come from Australia, they don't particularly like temperatures below 10 degrees. So they prefer to cuddle together in their 83m² heated stable! So - take heart and turn on the hotplates for our kangaroos!

Every year our reptiles fall into hibernation. Each individual turtle is transferred to a plastic container with a moist coconut fiber substrate and kept "cool" in specially purchased, low-noise and low-vibration refrigerators at temperatures below 6°C until March.

You want to shine a light on our animals? Ultraviolet light plays an important role for the body´s absorbtion of calcium. Lamps for UV supply in particular must be replaced every 6-12 months, as their UV output can decrease significantly.

Due to the good care and absence of predators, animals kept in the zoo often reach a significantly older age than their relatives in the wild. They also show certain signs of aging: dental problems, arthrosis or digestive problems do not stop at animal seniors. It goes without saying that we do everything we can to offer our protégés a species-appropriate, pain-free and beautiful old age. However, the corresponding veterinary care, medicines and special feed are expensive.

No matter if it´s summer heat or winter storms, Christmas or Easter - our zookeepers care for our animals every day with heart and soul. This not only requires personal dedication, but also good tools on a regular basis!

With more than 500 animals that need to be looked after, cared for and mostly fed every day at the zoo, a well-planned stock of feed is essential. Our feed kitchen is equipped with a 15m³ refrigeration cell and a 50m³ deep-freeze cell.

Due to official regulations aimed at combating African Swine Fever, our pigs must remain strictly confined to their barn. These measures may potentially last for several years.
Culling our pig population is not an option for us.
To make this special “lockdown phase” as pleasant as possible for the pigs, we will be building a fully enclosed 330 m³ pig courtyard. In addition to various comfort zones for the pigs, the facility will feature large window fronts that allow the animals to bask in the sun — and give our visitors the opportunity to see for themselves that our pigs are doing well.
Construction costs per cubic meter of the new facility: starting at 50 €
