As a nature conservation zoo, ESD has a very high priority in our daily work. The project "Sustainable Agriculture in Tibet and Germany" was also created in addition to various formal zoo-educational offers. It was funded by the scholarship program of the German Federal Environmental Foundation. "It shows impressively what future- oriented education can look like. The jury's vote honors the project because it explains very understandable how people act sustainably," Prof. Dr. Gerhard de Haan said who is chairman of the National Committee and the jury of the UN Decade in Germany.
With the comparison of Germany and Tibet we would like to impart knowledge to our visitors on the following aspects:
The intercultural comparison of peasant life in Tibet and Germany makes the playground so unique. The importance of agrobiodiversity becomes clear in the areas of animal husbandry, breeding and conservation of old pet breeds.
Interdisciplinary knowledge can be experienced through the overlapping topics in many different ways. The handling of cattle and milk-based food in Germany and Tibet can be evaluated and conclusions drawn for one's own life. Cultural openness was created, personal behavior was reflected and the consequences of one's own actions were recognized on this basis. The result shows changes in the sense of nature conservation and fair and sustainable action are conceivable and possible. Because in the end it becomes clear that every single person bears responsibility and can act in the sense of sustainability.
