Rocky steppes and deserts

as well as middle and high mountains in Central Asia are the natural habitat of the manul.

There the wild cats feed on small mammals and birds but insects can also be on their menu.

The manul is on the red list

and is classified as "potentially at risk".

However, the animals are struggling with habitat loss. They are also the prey of other predators and are hunted by humans.

The project team is in the process of gaining an overview of the current population.

To protect an animal species

you have to understand their way of life first.

PICA (Pallas’s Cat International Conservation Alliance) conducts field research around the manul - which is also called Pallas cats. With the help of wildlife cameras the shy animals are observed .

education

The educational work is an important part of the conservation work for the manul.

The project team visits the surrounding villages and informs about the life of the Manule and how they are threatened by humans.
