With the water strip project "Lower Havel Lowlands between Pritzerbe and Gnevsdorf" NABU is carrying out the largest river restoration in Central Europe . This is made possible thanks to the financial support of the federal government as well as the states of Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt - although the NABU's own contribution amounts to 1.6 million euros.
through accompanying measures to which the states of Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt also contribute with the help of EU funds. In addition NABU is raising a significant amount of additional funds here.
The Lower Havel is a marshland of international importance. We want to renaturalize the extended river and create new natural paradises.
NABU wants to reconnect oxbows, remove bank fortifications, activate flood channels and establish riverside and floodplain forests. In addition dike sections will be removed and flood grassland will be gained for flood protection. Help create a refuge for more than 1,000 species!
In autumn there will again be a special opportunity to actively participate in the renaturation of the Havel . NABU is looking for small groups of conservationists who will jointly plant willow cuttings together, maintain areas and much more– take part!
