In our zoo's snack bar "Feeding station" there are delicious meals, creative snacks, ice cream and cool fruits, monthly changing vegan soups and hot and cold drinks for every desire of the visitor.
When selecting our offers we paid particularly attention to our environment and the challenges of the future: The products are mainly regional and - if animal-based - come from an environment appropriate to the species organic animal husbandry and thus bear the sustainability concept that characterizes our entire park. In particular the topics "water" and "potato" as valuable, traditional staple foods of the Lusatia and valuable commodity are very important to us when it comes to design and implementation.
At the same time we try to counteract the disposable mentality: freshly tapped or brewed beverages are available in specially designed animal park reusable cups. For the sake of the environment we decided on a somewhat more complex deposit system which we successfully implement with our guests. Sustainable disposable tableware is used in places where an reusable alternative is not possible.
There are plenty of seating on the visitor terrace, the sun deck and in the visitor hut for a delicious break.
Tenant Otto Javurek runs his restaurant in the villa of the Görlitz-Zgorzelec nature reserve under the motto "We bring Czech cuisine directly to you". The restaurant "Zum gebratenen Storch" is the first restaurant in Görlitz to offer traditional Czech cuisine combined with good Czech beer. In accordance with the philosophy of the zoo the wide range of Czech dishes, salads, traditional and non-traditional dishes are prepared from regional products by local farmers, suppliers and small farms from the German and Czech border area. Throughout the year great importance is placed on the use of seasonal raw materials and supplies. Family friendliness is also important - there are special offers for the youngest customers.
By the way the name comes from the well-known German saying "Da brat mir einer einen Storch (someone fry me a stork)" which equals to the meaning of the English saying "I'll be jiggered" - a symbol of something outrageous or an exclamation of amazement. Before you fry or eat such a bird something very special must have happened. Consequently no storks are served in the restaurant.
The building has an eventful history. It was built in 1849 as a representative residential stable house of an agricultural company and it was tranformed into a noble manor house around 1880. A side wing was added at the beginning of the 1920s. After the renovation around 2000 the art deco style of that time now shapes the restaurant on the ground floor and the cafe / beer garden on the south front of the stork villa. An expansion of the upper floors has created a lot of room and space for exhibitions, vernissages, meetings, special events, standing receptions, etc.
We are happy to rent out our premises for your event. To clarify the modalities please send us an request!
